Copenhagen: Brewpub review

Traditional pub food in the heart of Copenhagen

The Danes love their beer and if you’re in Copenhagen there’s one restaurant that’s perfect for tasting traditional Danish food and beer – Brewpub. The pub/restaurant/microbrewery is located in a small lane in the middle of the city. You’ll have to follow the signs to get inside because it’s underground.

You’ll probably want to make a booking if you’re planning on eating there because the restaurant is pretty small so it fills up quite quickly. Bookings can be made online from anywhere in the world. I made a booking for my boyfriend and I from Sydney about a week before we flew out of the country.

The menu is filled with traditional entrees, mains and desserts. The way it works is you get two courses with your booking (288DKK each). My boyfriend ordered an entre of pickled haddock and a main of steak and veggies. I went for the steak and veggies main and cheese platter for dessert.

Staff are very welcoming, especially once they found out my boyfriend and I were travelling from Sydney. They recommended a couple of things to see, other restaurants to try and what food to order from the menu.

If you aren’t afraid to splash some cash on a meal and drinks, visit Brewpub.

I give Brewpub five stars for food and service.

Copenhagen: Sort Kaffe & Vinyl

The Danes love their coffee and so do I. When I was in Copenhagen I was on a quest to find the perfect cup of coffee. And I proudly say that I have found a winner.

Sort Kaffe & Vinyl isn’t a popular café in the city but my boyfriend and I discovered it on our way to the Carlsberg Brewery so it isn’t too far off the beaten track. The café combines the delicious menu of a café with new, local and retro vinyl in a very cosy and relaxed atmosphere.

There are a couple of tables and stools to sit at and a spot at the back of the café where you can listen to the music you’ve just discovered. There are stacks of vinyl to look through so you’ll want to take your time.

As for the coffee, the cappuccino I had here was deliciously strong and brewed to perfection, just the way I like it.

The prices are fairly good compared to most cafes in Copenhagen but if you’re visiting from another country they’re going to seem quite expensive.

Music and coffee. What more could you want?

I give Sort Kaffe & Vinyl five stars.

Sydney: Savanas Restaurant Review

Authentic Italian serving sizes but mediocre food

My family took me to Savanas, an Italian Restaurant in Wetherill Park, for my birthday dinner a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant itself is well laid out and spacious so even with a large group of nearly 20 people, we didn’t feel cramped in at all.

The food was well cooked but lacked authenticity. The pasta sauces were very sweet and rich which kind of took away from the rest of the dish. The starter garlic pizzas were great although that may have been due to the intense hunger I was feeling at that point.

The ham and pineapple pizza was a huge disappointment – I’ve eaten better Hawaiian pizzas from fast food chains. The other pizza flavours were better but not worth the expensive prices.

For the price you pay the food is well portioned but not the highest quality. I would expect to pay a little less for the quality of food we received. In terms of a venue for a birthday dinner it was a very spacious restaurant and the staff were brilliant! The food all arrived at the table at the same time so all 20 of us were able to eat together which is a hard task for any restaurant to manage I’m sure.

The staff were also willing to take my cake back into the kitchen and bring it out for me once dinner was over. They were extremely accommodating.

I give Savanas three stars.

Darling Harbour: Blackbird Cafe

Expensive food worth the views

If you’ve ever eaten out in Darling Harbour, Sydney, you will know just how hard it is to find a meal that won’t require you to take out a loan with the bank. So when my friend invited me out to dinner in Darling Harbour on Thursday night I preparing myself for just that.

But I decided to suck it up and spare the cash because I hadn’t seen my said friend in a while. I let her pick the restaurant for dinner and after hearing good things, she went with Blackbird Cafe. Blackbird is a bar/restaurant. The atmosphere is, as you can imagine, quite chilled out. We sat outside on the balcony which was beautiful. The sun set created some awkward glaring moments but it looked beautiful over the water nonetheless.

The food is delicious but overpriced as most of the food in Darling Harbour is. Despite the food being of quite a high standard, it just isn’t worth the amount of money you have to pay to get it. A glass of coke is $4.50 and most of the glass was filled with ice. The food is definitely better value here than the drinks

I ordered the Portuguese chicken burger and chips for $23. The burger was very messy and all of the sauce had been put on just one half of the burger, making it really difficult to eat. The chips were delicious but again, not worth the price I paid.

You really do just pay for the views and the atmosphere which are worth it. The cafe is definitely one of the more affordable restaurants in the harbour and also one of the busiest. There isn’t much variety on the menu so make sure you check it out before you decide to eat there.

I give Blackbird Cafe four stars

Sydney: Pandora’s Restaurant Review

Perfect for family dinners and dates

Pandora’s Restaurant is one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. Being Italian myself, I have pretty high standards when it comes to good food. And no, no restaurant has ever been able to top Nonna’s cooking. But Pandora’s comes pretty damn close.

I ordered the spaghetti bolognese like I always do – I think you can truly judge the quality of food by tasting the good ol’ spag bol first. The pasta is made fresh daily and it really is the freshest I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The sauce was amazing too.

The portion size is great for the amount you pay which is a little expensive for something in Rouse Hill. The price is more than worth it though. You’ll find yourself wanting to tip the waiters and cooks even more for their awesome service and great food.

The atmosphere is great. The music isn’t loud and the lights are just dim enough. Pulling into the car park you can smell the amazing grill food straight away – just as you should at an Italian restaurant. The servers are polite and friendly and really know their dishes. The menu isn’t the biggest, but it has enough food to pick from. There are great desserts to pick from too. We went for Pandora’s box, a secret and surprise selection of desserts from the menu.

I can’t speak highly enough of this place, it really is a great family restaurant. It’s going to be hard to top!

I give Pandora’s five stars.

Unsicht-Bar Dark Restaurant Berlin Review

Forget about the sense of sight when you dine at Unsicht-Bar dark restaurant in Berlin.

Upon entering the restaurant, you are given time to look over a set menu where each of the three course meals is written in the form of a riddle. You’ll get to pick from a poultry, beef, river and sea, surprise or vegetarian based menu but you’ll struggle to decipher exactly what it is you’ll be eating.

The wait staff (and the people you’ll be putting all of your trust in) are legally blind and know their way around the restaurant better than anyone. They’ll guide you through the dark room to your seats and help you feel around for your cutlery and drinks before bringing out your meals. Best of all, staff encourage you to use your hands as much as possible. So ditch the knife and fork before you make a mess of yourself.

Once the meal is over you’ll be guided out by your waiter/waitress where you can wash up if you happened to make a mess. You’ll also be told what you ate! For me that was the best part because it made me realise how much I suck at riddles.

TIP: You probably want to make a booking if you’re planning on eating here, they can get pretty busy. It’s also pretty pricey but if you’re in Berlin and you’re looking to try authentic German food with a twist, it’s worth it!

For a dinner that’s fun, exciting and rewards you for playing with your food, book a table at Unsicht-Bar.

I give Unsicht-Bar five-stars.
